About Your Teachers

 

MISS YVONNE

Yvonne grew up in Queens New York, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and African American Studies from Syracuse University.  Yvonne first worked as a Social Worker for three years in Brooklyn and always loved working with children and their families and decided to go back to school  to become a teacher and attended Hunter College where she received her Masters Degree in Childhood Education grades 1-6.

 

In 2004 after student teaching at the Talented and Gifted School for Young  Scholars in East Harlem, Yvonne had the privilege of becoming a classroom teacher at TAG, and had the wonderful experience of teaching in both the elementary and middle school.Yvonne taught both second and third grade for  six years and sixth grade humanities for seven years. Yvonne was also apart of the departmentalized of 5th/6th grade where she taught 5 separate classes of reading. While working at TAG Yvonne served as a new teacher mentor where she helped guide new teachers during their first year of teaching.   She also had the privilege of being apart of the Common Core Lab Team where she helped roll out the Common Core Standards and helped create the ELA units for elementary school. She was very fortunate to take part in Professional Development workshops in both ELA and math. Yvonne loved working at TAG with her wonderful families, fantastic students and brilliant colleagues.  She continues to improve her teaching practices by participating in meaningful and relevant Professional Developments and workshops. Yvonne believes in creating a classroom environment that suits the diverse needs of her students, focusing on collaboration and community. Yvonne works hard at creating a classroom environment that encourages her students to feel secure and welcomed, allowing for them to share their individuality in a safe and caring environment.

 

Today Yvonne lives in Beacon, New York, she is a mom to two daughters, Jordan is 18 and in her second year of college and Mikayla is 9 entering 5th grade.  Yvonne is so excited to join the 527 community and looks forward to working with students and families for the new school year.
